Basic Health Tips

Some basic health tips are listed below, applicable to most adults and children.
Sunlight
  • Try to get sunlight in your eyes or on your face first thing in the morning, it helps jumpstart production of Serotonin, a brain chemical that tells your body that everything is OK.  Sunlight is a source of Vitamin D.  Many believe that humans NEED to spend some time in the sunlight every week and commune with nature to provide a healthy balance to their stressful lifestyle.
Water
  • If your urine is dark (darker than the color of straw/hay) you are probably dehydrated.  Water helps to flush toxins & wastes from your body.
  • Never drink tap water.  It can contain bacteria, heavy metals (such as aluminum and  mercury), toxic chemicals such as DDT & other pesticides, flouride, etc.
  • Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces every day of purified water.  A 200 lb person should drink 100 oz of water a day.
  • Unless actively on a detox program, drink purified water rather than distilled water.  Distilled water can act like a vacuum, attracting not only toxins, but also vital minerals, that will be flushed from the body.  Frozen distilled water viewed under a microscope has a strange, non-uniform crystalline structure compared to purified water.
  • Sip/drink water and avoid "chugging" water.
  • Drink herbal teas (avoid black teas), especially cleansing teas such as liver detox blends, Jason Winters, or Dandelion Root teas.  Decaffeinated Green tea is an excellent source of antioxidants.
  • Add fresh lime and/or lemon to your water to help alkalize your body.  Add Stevia (herbal) sweetener for a healthy lemonade.
Food
  • Never eat with people you dislike, it can negatively affect your digestion.  Chew your food thoroughly, in a relaxing atmosphere.  Never eat when you are anrgy: try prayer, meditation, and other relaxation techniques to change your temperment rather than eating when emotionally upset.
  • Take a broad-spectrum, plant based Enzyme supplement with every meal (such as Vibra-Gest).  Enzymes are responsible for breaking down food during the digestive process, as well as healing, and other important functions.  Nothing happens in the body without enzymes.  Any time food is cooked to 118 degrees or above, the enzymes in the food are killed.  Undigested food rots & spoils, and can be a major source of stress and illness in the body.  Undigested food particles (CICs) weaken the immune system and can cause asthma, arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus, and other debilitating diseases.
  • Avoid sugar, Nutrasweet and other artificial sweeteners, and MonoSodiumGlutamate (MSG).  Your body treats sugar as a toxin/poison.  Your body is unsure how to process foreign chemicals such as Nutrasweet, and some research suggests that artificial sweeteners & MSG may be "excitotoxins" which cause/contribute to Alzheimers and other diseases.  A healthy alternative is an herbal sweetener called Stevia (I use Stevita - Stevia Supreme).  Stevia is a South American herb which is sweeter than sugar, has no side effects, and has some medicinal properties.  It has been used safely for centuries.
  • Avoid commercial chicken and beef (especially the frozen variety - because it contains up to a 20% "solution" which contains MSG to enhance flavor).  Commercial chicken and beef contain pesticides and growth hormones.  Growth hormones and high estrogen levels have been directly linked to breast cancer.   Growth hormones are also linked to early puberty in girls.
  • Buy organic foods, especially fruits and vegetables.  Organic foods cost more, but on average contain 2-3 times the vitamins & minerals than their non-organic counterparts.  Organic foods are grown without pesticides and contain little or no preservatives.  Use Sea Salt rather than processed salt.
  • Try to eat 70% raw, unprocessed foods -- because they are more alkaline and contain live enzymes and important cancer fighting chemicals.  Meats and cooked foods are more acidic.  An optimum Ph level for your body is 8.6.  Most people are about a 5 or 6 on the Ph scale.  Cancer flourishes in a sugar rich, acidic environment! The body does 3 things to combat an acidic Ph level: 1)  It retains water to dilute acids/toxins.  2)  It leeches alkaline materials from the body (such as calcuim from the bones) to help neutralize acids and maintain a more alkaline Ph level.  3)  It identifies toxins (such as sugar, and harmful chemicals) and either finds or creates fat to wrap around the toxins and then deposits the fat away from internal organs whenever it can.  In a nutshell, learn to love salads.  I have a chart to give you that shows what should be in your 70% group.
  • Eat more fish.  Especially Salmon, Halibut, and other deep water fish.
  • Eat dark green leafy salads, and add plenty of antioxidant & cancer fighting veggies like broccoli and cauliflower.  Avoid cheese, processed ham/meats, eggs, pastas, etc.  Use salad dressing moderately or sparingly.  Try to use low fat/low calorie dressings.
Elimination
  • Never wait to use the bathroom and eliminate toxins from your body.  "Holding it" is stressful to your body and may cause the body to introduce waste material back into the bloodstream.
  • Throughout history, most humans had to squat low to the ground for elimination, and the alignment of the body during squatting is conducive to elimination.  Modern toilets align the body differently than squatting, and therefore the body uses different muscles.  Consider using a step stool to raise your feet during stool elimination if you have trouble with bowel movement/constipation.
Avoid Alcohol
  • Alcohol is stressful and toxic to every system in the body.  It raises blood pressure, cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, causes dehydration, kills prescription antibiotics in the blood stream, causes food cravings for sugar and carbohydrates, and is very acidic.  It is essential to avoid alcohol for weight loss.
Exercise Regularly
  • Exercise 20 - 30 minutes 3 times a week minimum.  Unlike your vascular system which circulates blood, the Lymph system has no "pump" like the heart.  The lymph system helps to detox the body and fight bacteria and viruses.  Your body contains more lymph fluid than blood, and exercise is the only way to help circulate the lymph fluid.  Deep breathing and exercise oxygenate the body.
Stay Positive!
  • Negative emotions are physically bad for your body.  Negative emotions actually trigger the creation of Cortisol: a damaging chemical that depresses the immune system and can actually attack lean muscle tissue.  Cortisol also causes food cravings and negatively affects blood sugar.  If your goal is weight loss, it is imperative that you avoid negative thinking and do your best to appropriately handle stress.
  • Find, borrow, or buy Tony Robbins motivational tapes or CDs.  They really can help you to stay positive and move your life in the direction you want it to go.   Attitude and weight loss go hand-in-hand.
  • Listen to uplifting/inspirational/relaxing music, such as Yanni, Enya, Bach, Beethoven, and many others.  Music makes things fun and can create a relaxed atmosphere with little effort.  Ever tried watching a good movie without the music???  It definitely loses something !!

Staying Beautiful When You can't Afford Cosmetics

Staying beautiful when you can't afford cosmetics:

Tip #1 – Make your own microderm abrasion product

Mix a few grains of sugar crystals in with your favorite skin cream and apply to freshly washed skin. Gently massage the cream in small circular motions around the face and neck area. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. Your skin will look almost as good as an expensive spa treatment.

Tip #2 - Extend existing foundation

Instead of using foundation straight out of the bottle, mix it with moisturizer. That way you take care of two birds with one stone. You continue to moisturize the skin - the most important treatment of all - and still add a touch of healthy-looking color. You may want to play with the mixture to get the ratio the way you want it; however, two parts moisturizer to one part foundation works well for most women.

Tip #3 – Shape up those brows

If you can’t afford anything to play up your beautiful eyes, this is one trick that works every time. After all, the brows frame your face and should always be in picture-perfect condition.

Tip #4 – Ditch those under-eye bags and dark circles

Instead of throwing away tea bags after you brew your morning tea, put them in a zipper bag and place them in the refrigerator. When those nasty eye puffiness comes calling, lay down for about 10 minutes with the cool damp tea bags on your eyes. Tannin, one of tea’s main ingredients, works naturally to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Tip #5 – Add natural highlights to your hair

If you can’t afford hair color, try highlighting instead, done the natural way. Mix one part lemon juice with three parts water. Put the mixture into a spray bottle and spray onto the hair, or paint on highlights using pure lemon juice and a small paintbrush. Then blow-dry or let your hair dry naturally in the sun. Be sure to condition it afterwards to keep hair from becoming too brittle.

Tip # 6 – Shine up that hair

When expensive hair care products no longer fit into the budget, turn to your kitchen pantry. Any number of items from coconut milk, to honey or even vinegar, will add vibrancy and shine when used during a hair rinse. A few drops of glycerine or olive oil applied directly to freshly washed and dried hair will also do the trick.

Tip # 7 – Make your own lip tint

Not only is this home product easy to apply, it will last a lot longer than many lipsticks and colors on the market today. Just choose your favorite gelatin color. Dampen a foam tipped applicator with water then into the powder. Apply the color directly to the lips. Add more than one coat to deepen the tone, if desired. For shine, add a touch of glycerin or lip balm on top.

Tip # 8 – Make your own blush

Mix one cup of strawberries, raspberries, or cherries with a teaspoon of glycerin or liquid vitamin E. Blend thoroughly in blender. Mix a small amount of the berry mixture into your loose face powder to create a smooth creamy blush that will brighten any complexion. Add more berries if a deeper color is desired.

Tip # 9 – Rejuvenate skin with a natural toner

Cucumber does wonders for the skin whether you use it directly or just throw in your morning facial bath. Because the vegetable has amazing hydrating properties, it will give your skin the same youthful, beautiful glow as your favorite, more expensive, facial cream.

Tip # 10 – Exercise and eat properly

No one wants to hear it, but it’s true. Exercise and a proper diet is the best medicine for the body’s overall health. That even includes the complexion. The most beautiful women in the world glow from the inside out and that only comes from taking care of their bodies.

Tips For Looking Beautiful

Tips For Looking Beautiful:

Home Hair Cleanser: Take a handful each of dried reetha, amla and shikakai. Soak them in one liter water overnight. Next day, simmer the herbs on a low fire till the water reduces by half. Allow the mixture to cool and then strain it with a clean cloth. Use the liquid to wash hair. This quantity should be enough for four to five washes. Refrigerate it. Make small quantities at a time.

Pimples occur on the oily areas of the skin. Therefore, applying cold cream can lead to further pimples. Mix one part of pure glycerin with four parts of rosewater and keep it in the fridge. Apply it on the face after washing and before applying it, add a few drops of lemon juice to it. Once daily, apply curd mixed with a little turmeric on the entire face, and wash it off with plenty of water after 20 minutes. Apply sandalwood paste on the pimples.

Dandruff: Twice a week, heat pure coconut oil and apply it on the scalp at night, using cotton wool. Leave it on overnight. Next morning, apply the juice of a lemon on the scalp and wash your hair after half an hour. Apply henna once a week.

Lifeless Hair: Once or twice a week, heat pure coconut oil and apply it on the scalp and hair. Then dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap the towel around your head like a turban. Keep it on for five minutes. Repeat the hot towel wrap three or four times. This helps the hair and the scalp absorb the oil better. Use a mild herbal shampoo. After each shampoo, apply a conditioner, massaging it lightly into the hair. Leave it on for two minutes before washing it off with water. You can have henna treatment thrice a month, adding four teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, two raw eggs, two teaspoons of oil and enough curd to the henna powder. It will make your hair look healthy and lustrous.

Grey Hair: Amla is said to check greyness. Have the juice of one raw amla after adding it to a glass of water. Also try adding amla to the henna powder. Henna turns white hair reddish brown. It will not color dark hair. Soak a handful of dry amla in about two cups of water overnight. Next morning, strain the water, but do not throw the water away. Grind the amla. To the henna powder, add the ground amla, four teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, two raw eggs and enough amla water, so that the henna can be mixed into a thick paste. Apply it on the hair, covering the entire head. Keep it on for two hours and wash it off with water. It will also add shine and substance to the hair. Ask your doctor to prescribe Vitamins B-Complex and C.

Oily Hair, Hair Loss: Excessive oiliness of the scalp can lead to hair loss. Wash your hair daily, using very little shampoo ? one teaspoon for long hair and half teaspoon for short hair. Dilute it with a little water and use it. After washing, add the juice of a lemon to half a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. Have henna treatment once a week. Add four teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, two raw eggs and enough tea water to the henna powder and mix it into a thick paste. Apply it on the hair and wash it off after an hour. If you do not wish to use egg, add more tea water. For tea water, boil used tealeaves in water. Cool and strain before using. Include fresh fruits, raw salads and sprouts in your daily diet. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water. Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and have it first thing in the morning.

Dry, Lifeless Skin: Use a facial scrub once a week. For very dry skin, avoid soap and use a cleansing gel or cream. For the body, use a mild, glycerin soap. Apply sesame seed (til) oil on the body before your bath. Mix honey with egg yolk and a little milk and apply it daily on the face, washing it off with plain water after 20 minutes. At night, apply a good nourishing cream and massage it on the face with a few drops of water. Wipe it off with moist cotton wool. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going out in the sun. Til oil actually has sunscreen properties, but it is better to use a sunscreen lotion for proper protection. Aloe Vera is a powerful moisturizer and an anti-oxidant. It helps keep the skin soft and healthy. It is better to use moisturizers and creams containing aloe vera.

Double Chin: exercises ? open your mouth as wide as you can. Hold this position for about 10 seconds, then relax your mouth, and repeat the exercise a few more times. For faster results, add resistance by placing a tennis ball underneath your chin, while testing your jaw span. Sleeping without a pillow is said to help. Also, you can massage the area daily with a cream. Start from the chin and go downwards using both hands, one hand following the other.

Oily T-Zone: either buy a facial scrub or mix rice powder with curd and use it as a scrub. You may add a little turmeric if you wish. Apply the scrub on the face, rubbing gently with small circular movements. Leave it on for five minutes and then wash it off. This will keep the pores free of clogged oil. Once daily, at any time, mix one teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of lemon juice and egg white and apply it on the oily areas, washing it off after 20 minutes.

Glowing Skin: After cleansing, wipe the face with rose water, using cotton wool and then pat it briskly. Use a face mask once or twice a week. You can make a mask at home with two teaspoons of choker, one teaspoon of oatmeal or ground almonds and one teaspoon each of curd, honey and egg white. Apply it on the face and wash it off after 20-30 minutes.

Thin Waist: Join a gym or health club and lose weight under professional guidance. Or, practice yoga daily. You can also do the following exercises after seeking your doctor?s advice. First, lie on the floor on your back, feet together and arms at the sides. Lift your legs about six inches above the ground and hold this position for a count of ten. Then lower your legs to the floor. Repeat this exercise 3 to 4 times and increase gradually. Then, keep lying on the floor, the same way. Bend your knees and keep your feet flat on the floor. Raise your body to a half-sitting position, holding your arms stretched out before you. Lower your body to the floor and repeat 3 or 4 times. Take a look at your eating habits. Avoid eating desserts after meals and stick to fresh fruits. Take clear soups (without butter) and salads before the main dish. Avoid rich gravies. Cut down on your intake of cereals. For example, if you have been eating three chapatis, eat only two. Or, eat only one cup of cooked rice. Eat fresh fruits, salads, sprouts, curd and paneer made from skimmed milk and lightly cooked vegetables. If you feel like a snack, eat fruit, carrot or cucumber.

Combination Skin, Pimples: In combination skins, usually the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) is oily, while the rest of the face is dry. Pimples on the forehead can occur due to oiliness of the skin. You should wash the face only twice a day with a medicated soap. After washing, wipe the oily areas with rose water mixed with an astringent lotion in equal quantities. Use this two or three times a day. Avoid applying besan or multani mitti as they can sometimes clog the pores and cause pimples, blackheads or whiteheads, especially in pimple-prone skin. Add a little turmeric to curd and apply daily on the face, washing it off well with water after 20 minutes. Add a few drops of rose water to sandalwood paste and apply on the forehead and areas with spots. Keep it on for at least one hour.

Dry Skin: If you wish to use soap, you can try a mild glycerin soap and see if it suits your skin. You should keep your skin well moisturized during the day, or if you are going out in the sun, apply a sunscreen. At night, use a nourishing cream, massaging it on the skin for two to three minutes. Massage the forehead too, starting from the bridge of the nose and using both hands. Go upwards and then in an arc on either side, go towards the temples. Wipe off with moist cotton wool. Once daily, mix one teaspoon honey with egg white and apply on the skin, washing off with plain water after 20 minutes.

Blackheads: the daily use of a facial scrub will help. You can either buy a facial scrub, or you can mix rice powder with curd or rose water and use as a facial scrub. Apply on the face and rub gently on the skin using small circular movements. Concentrate on the blackhead prone areas. Leave on for five minutes and then wash off with water. Once daily, mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities with egg white and apply on the face, washing it off after 20 minutes.

Water Based Cosmetics:

In summer season it’s always good to use water base foundations and bases. Summer make-up has more chances to get moist, because of the perspiration. Due to the perspiration usually summer make-up gets cracks. The cracks in the base & foundation of course not look nice. So in order to avoid from any sort of disturbance later; keep your eyes open while purchasing the foundation.
Using oil base foundation means having excess of oil on the face in make-up after some hours. Other then foundations, water base blushes also help you in maintaining your make-up for a long period of time. Besides blushes and foundations you should use water base sun blocks in summer, not oil base. The sun blocks must be of SPF 15. Otherwise oil base sun block can cover your face with another layer of oil; and this will have drastic results in the form of pimples.
So prefer water based blushes, foundations & sun blocks to have fresh summer make-up.

7 Tips On Looking Younger

Anti Aging Skin Care - 7 Tips On Looking Younger

Seven tips on looking after your body and mind:

1. Drink plenty of water every day - most doctors recommend 7 to 10 glasses a day. Water flushes out toxins, keeping your body and skin clean. Also your skin will look clearer and plumper if it is not dry. Definitely the first step for "anti aging skin care" to look younger.

2. Eat a healthy balanced diet, include something from all the major food groups each day in your diet. Eat plenty of fibre and fresh fruit and vegetables. The UK government recommends five portions of fruit and vegetables are eaten daily, however this should be the minimum amount you eat. Fruit and vegetables contain many essential vitamins and minerals that help maintain and repair the skin and cells. Not only will your skin look younger but your body will age better and you will be less prone to many common diseases of old age. The prefect "anti aging skin care solution" Also avoid eating fatty and oily foods which increase your weight but do not give you anything nutritionally. Overweight people generally look and feel much older than they are.

3. Aim to lead a stress free, calm existence. If you are stressed the body releases chemicals which years ago would have helped you to deal with the problem with "fight" or "flight". Since these are not a solution to most of life today’s problems, the chemicals will stay in your body and cause you to become mentally or physically ill. Ensure that you sleep well and exercise regularly. Use whichever techniques help you to relax - taking a long warm bath, massage or aroma therapy are just a few to try. Remember, extreme stress will just cause your hair to go white and your face to look tired and lined. Enjoy life!

4. Regular exercise, taken at least 3 times a week and daily if possible, will work wonders in helping you look and feel younger. Ensure the exercise is vigorous enough to make you break out in a sweat and your skin will look younger as toxins are flushed out. Remember to contact your doctor before drastically changing your exercise regime.

5. Avoid UV radiation as it is the major cause of premature skin aging and wrinkles. Ensure you always have adequate sun protection for the climate and your skin type. Buy facial moisturisers which contain UV protection for daily use. Use of a good quality high factor sun cream should be part of your daily routine. A tan might look good for a while but you will age and wrinkle quickly and be more prone to skin diseases such as cancers.

6. Try to cut out nicotine and alcohol consumption. Smoking will age you as chemicals in the smoke are aging to the skin and will reverse your anti aging skin care process. Additionally, if you are forever squinting through smoke, crow’s lines around the eyes will appear all too quickly. Alcoholic drinks contain many toxins which are harmful to your health. Excessive drinking will mean your liver no longer copes with ridding your body of these toxins.

7. Look for skin care products which are anti aging (those containing the ingredients Vitamin C, retinol and ceramides are very good). Try different anti aging skin care products to see which works best for you and moisturise daily. Remember, if you feel good about yourself, you will look good.

3. Use products that have regenisomes. Regenisomes penetrate the skin to speed cell renewal after sun exposure. They also use the light of photosomes to undo sun damage, and have ultrasomes to renew skin while sleeping.

4. Find products with Proteo-C and Proflavonol-T. These two vitamins protect the skin from premature aging caused by the sun, pollution, and other environmental factors. They also provide advanced nutrition to the skin to keep it appearing smooth and firm.

5. If possible, use products that are paraben free. Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives that are widely used in personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair styling products, make-up, facial masks, skin lotions and creams, and deodorants. They also are typically ingredients in baby lotions, shampoos, and other personal care products for infants and children. In addition, parabens are in many foods and pharmaceutical products. Researchers are beginning to find parabens in benign and malignant human breast tumors. While some studies have challenged their toxicity in many products and question their long term affect on humans, using products that are paraben free can eliminate the risk of exposure to this harmful chemical.

6. Drink plenty of water! Water hydrates skin and hair as well as flushes toxins out of the body.

7. Limit stress or learn to manage it effectively. Stress is harmful both emotionally and physically. Find that stress reliever activity that works best and use it on a daily basis!

10 Great Hair Care Tips

10 Great Hair Care Tips:

If you watch the tabloids, you know that even the stars have bad hair days. It just seems that when the professional stylists are out of the picture, it is inherently human to have a less than glamorous mane. But you can do your part to stay ahead of the battle by following these great tips for hair care.

1. Use a professional conditioner that is formulated for your specific hair type. While you can skimp a little on the shampoo, a good, professional conditioner is a must have. Look for products in salons that are customized for your hair type. For instance: If you have color or a perm, choose a conditioner that is for chemically processed hair. And stay away from those all-in-one shampoo and conditioner combos.

2. Choose a cut tailored to your face and body shape. The number one mistake that people make when choosing a new hairstyle is to pick a style based on popularity rather than how it will enhance their features. Always choose a new cut based on how it will enhance or detract from your facial features and build. If you have broad shoulders, choose a full-bodied cut over a close cropped head hugging do.

3. Don’t forget your UV protectants. Just as your skin gets damaged by wind and sun, so does your hair. To combat this, look for finishing products such as mousses, gels and sprays that block UV rays.

4. Keep your appointments. Did you know that your hair will split faster than it will grow? You need to get a trim every 6 to 8 weeks, even if it’s just a micro trim. A good hairdresser makes them good because they know what to leave on the head, not take off.

5. Leave chemicals to the professionals. There is a reason why beauticians need to go to school to learn how to handle chemicals and hair processes. You can do irreparable damage with these products even if the package says that it’s way easy. And even if you don’t make your hair fall out, you could end up looking like a clown and paying a stylist big bucks to fix your mess. (Note: Most stylists charge double the rate for corrective color than they do for normal color processes)

6. Get color for interest and body. Every cut needs a little bit of color to make it truly breathtaking. No matter whether your taste is subtle or dramatic, you can add interest and volume to your tresses with a color process. Highlights, lowlights, all over color, gray coverage, you name it, it’s all good for your look.

7. Do weekly conditioning treatments. Even if your hair is extremely healthy, it is constantly on the attack from wind, sun, cold and heat. During the summer months, your hair is battered even more when it absorbs chlorine and other chemicals from your pool.

8. Get an ionic ceramic flat iron. Instead of frying your hair with a conventional metal plated flat iron. Straighten your tresses, add shine and infuse moisture with one of the a negative ionic flat irons. We personally use T3 irons for all our work.

9. Choose your styling products wisely. Avoid products that leave build-up on your hair. If you see white gunk, that means that your product is not water-soluble and may be coating your hair shaft. Build-up causes limpness, breakage and inability to curl not to mention the white flakes.

10. Did you know that if you use a towel after your shower to dry your hair you are causing split ends and adding static electricity to your hair. Don’t rub the towel back and forth over your hair, scrunch the towel around your hair like your would scrunch crackers in your soup.

While all of these tips won’t make you look like you’ve hired a personal hairdresser, they will help you look the very best that you can each and every day. When it comes to hair care, remember that you wear your hair everyday. Now isn’t it worth the time, effort and money that it takes to keep it looking spectacular?
